"sfPivoine" is a musical application allowing everybody to be engaged in a participatory concert in which smartphone is the main musical instrument generating sound with gestures. This is a performance for Pipa, Smartphones and Live electronic music, which is inspired by an Chinese opera "The Peony Pavilion"(牡丹亭). Everybody can get the feeling of being a part of performance and part of scenario.
-I-: On a fine Spring day, a maid persuades Du Liniang, the sixteen-year-old daughter of an important official, Du Bao, to take a walk in the garden, where she falls asleep. In Du Liniang's dream she encounters a young scholar, identified later in the play as Liu Mengmei, whom in real life she has never met. Liu's bold advances starts off a flaming romance between the two and it flourishes rapidly. Du Liniang's dream is interrupted by a flower petal falling on her, according to her soliloquy recounting the incident in a later act: (Reflection on the lost dream). Du Liniang, however, becomes preoccupied with her dream affair and her lovesickness quickly consumes her. Unable to recover from her fixation, Du Liniang wastes away and dies.
-II-: The president of the underworld adjudicates that a marriage between Du Liniang and Liu Mengmei is predestined and Du Liniang ought to return to the earthly world. Du Liniang appears to Liu Mengmei in his dreams. He now inhabits the same garden where Du Liniang had her fatal dream. Once recognising that Du Bao's deceased daughter is the lady who appears in his dreams, Liu agrees to exhume her upon her request and Du Liniang is brought back to life. Liu visits Du Bao and informs him of his daughter's resurrection. However, Liu is imprisoned for being a grave robber and an impostor. The ending of the play follows the formula of many Chinese comedies. Liu Mengmei narrowly escapes death by torture thanks to the arrival of the results of the imperial examination in which Liu has topped the list. The emperor pardons all.
This is only a broad outline of the plot of an opera which can run for more than 22 hours.The play has a total of 55 scenes.
《牡丹亭》，原名《还魂记》，又名《杜麗娘慕色還魂記》，是明代剧作家汤显祖的代表作，创作于1598年，描写了大家闺秀杜丽娘和书生柳梦梅的生死之恋。与《紫钗记》、《南柯记》和《邯郸记》并称为“玉茗堂四夢”。
This performance is adapted and simplified from the original version. There are three part:-PART 1:"Dream in the garden",this is the theme about the girl,Du Liniang's visit and with her sweetheart lover in the dream, during this part, we invite public open the application and enter the first part like come into the dream, they can play with the gestures, the images of garden will move according to that and also generate the sound, like chinese instrument ZHENG and the song of her dreamlover. after a transition about her lovesicness and death, here is:-PART 2-"Call back the spirit", contrary to first part, the boy,Liu Mengmei is the main character, three years later, when he live in the same gaden and find the painting of sefie left by the girl, he talks with the painting and express his love, in this part, we invite the public to switch to second part of the application, they can use multitouch to interact and in the earphone hear the call transformed by the microphone, like smartphone is the painting and call-reponse with the boy in the real world. after a transition about girl's resurrection, end with:-PART 3-Happy Ending..Wedding..
